October 17–19, San Francisco, CA
Hosted by the Academy of Art University

SQ1 CON 2019

SQ1 CON is Advanced Design’s annual design conference. The conference was founded in 2017 by a small group of students at the University of Illinois-Chicago looking to make their voices heard within the evolving climate of design education. Since then, it has evolved to having an international presence—attracting an audience of nearly 1,000 attendees from over 17 states and 4 countries within its first two years. SQ1 CON began as a design conference focused on visual communication and sketching techniques, and has since grown to encompass various design practices and dialogues.

Advanced Design is excited to present SQ1 2019 in one of the most diverse design communities in the world: San Francisco. The best way to learn and grow is to get outside of one’s comfort zone, which is why this year we broke all of our own rules and began to create a unique conference experience that will maximize the reach of each attendee. This year, we’re excited to have teamed up with several studios and spaces within the Bay area to host our attendees and speakers. SQ1 2019 will offer a collective of engaging workshops and informative lectures by our panel of designers, all of whom are in different stages of their design career. This year’s SQ1 will be one for the books.

We’re excited to have teamed up with several studios and spaces within the Bay Area to host our attendees and speakers. SQ1 2019 will offer a collective of engaging workshops and informative lectures by our panel of designers, all of whom are in different stages of their design career. There are three lectures happening simultaneously, therefore our attendees will have to select one of three to attend - this is all first come basis, as some venues have a smaller capacity than others. We can’t promise you’ll get into the lecture of your choice. Please review the agenda below to match your schedule and plan accordingly!
