This course introduces students to fundamental concepts such as the nature of truth, the essence of good design, cause and effect, conflict resolution, goal setting, and gaining perspective in the field of design. The module on Design Discourse focuses on different methods of cultivating thoughtful mindsets and framing ideas that pertain to design, its challenges, and opportunities. It aims to broaden perspectives through interactive discussions and the practice of thoughtfulness.
In this course, you will embark on a learning journey that will equip you with the ability to articulate the motivations and objectives behind your design choices, enhancing your understanding of what you aim to achieve through your designs. You will also develop the skill to effectively communicate about your work, enabling you to frame and present your decision-making and critical thinking processes coherently. Additionally, you will learn to utilize various frameworks, which will play a crucial role in enhancing and elevating the overall quality of your work.

Offsite Student is designed for beginners, meaning that individuals without a design background are eligible and encouraged to enroll in this course.

Spencer Nugent
Spencer Nugent, originally from Jamaica and now an educator and creator in Salt Lake City, Utah, established Sketch-A-Day.com and IDSKETCHING.COM. Since 2008, he has been offering free, high-quality design sketching tutorials, both online and in person. His commitment to design and drawing is evident through his daily YouTube streams on "Sketch-A-Day LIVE" and his Instagram posts.
Professionally, Spencer has an extensive background, with experience at General Motors, Astro Studios, and his own design consultancy, Studio Tminus. He has worked with major brands like Microsoft, Adidas, and Motorola, and has led workshops at prestigious venues such as Adidas HQ, Apple Retail, and Adobe MAX.
