Henry Julier

Henry Julier is an American industrial designer with a diverse range of interests and outputs. Currently, he holds the position of Lead Industrial Designer at Standard Issue, a multidisciplinary design firm located in Brooklyn, NY. Henry also collaborates with and releases products for design brands such as Design Within Reach, Areaware, From the Bay, and Umbra.

His work is guided by a human-centered approach to systems thinking, knowledge of industrial production methods, research into design history, and a belief in democratic design principles. This approach is applied to the variety of projects undertaken at Standard Issue, which range from furniture design, packaging and display design, exhibit design and branded environments, as well as to his personal furniture and home goods projects.

He earned a BFA in Industrial Design from Carnegie Mellon University in 2007. Prior to joining Standard Issue in 2013, he worked for Jeffrey Barnett, Aruliden, and Johnson & Johnson’s Global Strategic Design Office. Henry is also a member of the Furnishing Utopia collective and was a co-founder of the American Design Club.
