FAQ

How do I get around San Francisco?
In San Francisco, there are various efficient ways to get around the city. Below is a list of options, including trains, ride services, and biking. San Francisco offers multiple public transportation choices to help you navigate the city.

Rideshare & Rental
Uber/Lyft: Popular ride-sharing services available throughout the city.

Bay Wheels: A bike-sharing program with docking stations across the city, offering both traditional and electric bikes for short trips.

Scooters: Electric scooters, offered by companies like Lime and Bird, are available for rent throughout the city.

Public Transit:
Muni (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency): Buses and Trolleys:** Muni operates an extensive network of buses and trolleybuses that cover most of the city.

Muni Metro: A light rail system with several lines (J, K, L, M, N, T) that run both above ground and in subway tunnels, connecting various neighborhoods to downtown.

Cable Cars: Iconic to San Francisco, the cable cars are a fun and historic way to travel between downtown and the waterfront.

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit): BART is a regional transit system that connects San Francisco with the East Bay, Peninsula, and South Bay, including the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Within the city, BART has multiple stations along Market Street, making it a convenient option for cross-town travel.

Walking: San Francisco is a very walkable city, especially in neighborhoods like North Beach, the Mission, and downtown. Many attractions are within walking distance of each other.

What should I bring to check in?
At check in, please be sure that you bring a valid ID or legal form identification.

What should I bring to the workshops?
For each day of the workshops, after your essentials (i.e. phone, wallet, etc) you’re welcome to take notes. We would also recommend that you carry light since you’ll be on the road.

External battery charger & cord.
Refillable water bottle.
Snacks for the journey.

Is food going to be provided?
Food will not be provided at the conference, and attendees will have to accommodate themselves for all meals. We have however provided a range of food options at different price points that you can find right around the corner from our conference. Our conference spaces are nestled in the heart of San Francisco; that offers a variety of food, coffee shops, and bakeries.

What if I’m late to a workshop?
Please be courteous to the time each workshop begins. If you are late, check in with the Advanced Design team member, and they’ll point you to where you’ll need to be. While entering the venue, please be respectful to the other attendees and quietly join.

Where’s the afterparty?
Advanced Design has organized multiple afterparties on October 23rd (welcome party), October 24th (TBD) and October 25th (TBD). All Attendees are welcome.

What do I do if an attendee is harassing me or another person?
If you see conference misconduct, immediately report it to conference organizers. Individuals who go against the Conference Code of Conduct will be expelled from the conference. You can find our Code of Conduct. We take our attendees’ concerns seriously. If you see something, say something.

Regarding COVID-19
We care about your health and wellbeing, as well as preventing the spread of infectious disease like COVID-19. Masks are required for indoor activities, such as workshops, lectures, and panels. Additionally, if you experience fever, cold, or flu-like symptoms we advise you to stay home.



Conduct & Accessibility

Our conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Inappropriate sexual language and imagery is not tolerated for any conference venue, including lectures, workshops, parties, Instagram and other online media. Sole discretion to remove an individual resides with Advanced Design, the conference organizers. This conference is not an avenue for making others uncomfortable with unwanted suggestive advances.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified as they'll be wearing branded badges. If you see something, say something.
Our current provision of ADA compliance only includes physical accommodations for those alternatively abled utilizing mobility aids. As an organization of individuals coming from a diverse set of backgrounds and abilities, we hope to accommodate as broad of a spectrum of alternative abilities as possible.

Unfortunately we are still unable to fully accommodate this through visual, hearing, and other abilities. By providing notes on spaces that are ADA accessible, our goal is to be transparent about the type of accommodations we are able to provide, but also understanding that we still have a long way to go in terms of where we would like to be.
