Sketch Methods

with Elodie Delassus

Offsite Pro
Sketch Methods is a 10-week, practice-driven course that reframes sketching as a way of thinking, communicating, and collaborating—not just drawing. Through hands-on exercises, interdisciplinary prompts, and low-stakes experimentation, students work through sketching anxiety while developing flexible strategies for using sketches as tools for exploration, dialogue, and decision-making.
The course emphasizes learning by doing, building an understanding of when and why different sketching methods are used, while launching a self-directed portfolio project.

Learning Outcomes

  • Approach sketching with greater confidence and reduced anxiety

  • Use a range of sketching strategies to support thinking, exploration, and clear communication

  • Choose and use sketching tools intentionally based on context and purpose
  • Observe and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration using sketching as a shared visual language

  • Develop and launch a portfolio project that emphasizes process, experimentation, and method over polished outcomes

Schedule

Tuesday, 11:30AM–1PM CST
