Offsite Japan
Beginning in 2026, Offsite expands to Japan—approaching its creative legacy with humility and respect. Japanese design embodies a rare balance of restraint and innovation, rooted in tradition, material intelligence, and thoughtful simplicity. These are values we seek to learn from and honor, while engaging with Japan’s ongoing leadership in materials, soft goods, robotics, sustainability, and deeply human-centered design. Offsite Japan invites participants into this living landscape to broaden their understanding of what design can be.
In-person participants may join us on the ground during the first two weeks, with curated field excursions designed to build shared context and connection. Remote participants will follow along through photos, short films, and field notes.
Travel, lodging, meals, and related expenses are not included in course fees and are the responsibility of each participant. We promise—it’s worth the journey.

Q&A
(Q) When do courses begin?
(A) Courses are set to begin January 26 2026.
(Q) Will there be an ability to attend these courses IRL within Japan?
(A) All of our 10-week offerings will be available both in person and remotely, with each course including the option to join us IRL for the first one to two weeks alongside our remote cohort. We’re currently finalizing details over the next six months, with our first in-person term hosted at our community partner space, Midori.so / Bakuroyokoyama. Moving forward, we plan to rotate our IRL weeks across Japan, grounding each term in inspiring design cities and communities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Kanazawa, Osaka, Okinawa, and Hokkaido. To participate, simply email us after completing your registration and we’ll share full details at offsitejapan@yesand.design. Travel, lodging, meals, and related expenses are not included in course fees and are the responsibility of each participant—but we promise, it’s worth the journey.
(Q) If I’m only interested in 2-3 courses, do I have to take the rest?
(A) We’re offering Student for Japan now and will build out our unique offering for Pro and Plus over the next 6 months. Once Pro and Plus from JST are up and operating, you now have the flexibility to choose single or multiple courses from our extensive course catalog. Visit Offsite Plus to explore our range of offerings!
(Q) Which cohort would be the best fit for me, considering my extensive experience in design, even though I'm not specifically an industrial designer?
(A) To best accommodate your unique background and goals at Offsite, please email us; we're eager to arrange a meeting and discuss customizing the program for you.
(Q) Is it feasible to engage in the Offsite program alongside a full-time job, or does it require a commitment beyond an hour each evening?
(A) Offsite offers flexible pacing with Offsite Plus, allowing you to opt for a full schedule or just a few courses based on your availability, with convenient online and recorded sessions for later access.
(Q) What will I get upon completion of this course?
(A) Upon completion of this program, you’ll be given a certificate of completion. This certificate represents your completion of the course under the instruction of working industry leaders, and holds the merit that you’ve understood and mastered all elements of the course content.
(Q) Why is this all online?
(A) Offsite wants to offer course content that can be accessible to all at an affordable price. Due to our remote learning situation, we’ve cut out all fees bound to location-based learning. This allows you to live in your day-to-day without breaking the bank while still accessing quality design education.
(Q) What time will Offsite take place?
(A) Offsite will operate exclusively within Japan Standard Time (JST). Recorded content will be available, and instructors will coordinate review sessions with students.
