Basecamp in Tokyo

WPÜ Shinjuku

WPÜ Shinjuku is Offsite Japan’s hospitality partner and basecamp for the Tokyo studio. In-person classes will take place in the art gallery. Students and faculty can use the wider space to meet, work, and spend time together before and after class.

Registered students and participating faculty will receive a private booking link and code for 10% off eligible rooms at WPÜ Shinjuku. Rooms are booked and paid for directly with WPÜ. Availability is limited, and the discount applies only while eligible rooms remain.

Staying at WPÜ is optional. You can arrange lodging anywhere that works for you.

Program & Participation

  • Offsite Japan is for people who want a practical, current way into industrial design. You may be a student, a recent graduate, a working creative moving toward product design, or someone returning to the field after time away. People arrive with different levels of experience. Be ready to make, share unfinished work, and respond to feedback.

  • No. The Student program builds a foundation across sketching, methods, digital tools, manufacturing, and monozukuri. Familiarity with visual communication or making can help, but curiosity, consistency, and regular practice matter more.

  • For Autumn 2026, enrollment includes all five courses as one connected program. À la carte courses and additional Pro and Plus formats are planned for 2027.

  • Possibly, but plan for a real weekly commitment. The program includes live classes, independent assignments, critiques, and project work. Sessions are recorded when possible, but recordings do not replace participation, feedback, or time spent making. Review the schedule carefully before enrolling.

  • All live sessions are scheduled in Japan Standard Time (JST). Recorded sessions will be available when you cannot attend live. Each instructor will explain how reviews and feedback work within their course.

Tokyo and WPÜ Shinjuku

  • No. You can complete the 10-week program online from anywhere, provided the Japan Standard Time schedule works for you. The Tokyo studio is optional.

  • The Tokyo studio is planned for Sep 28, 2026 to Oct 9, 2026, pending final confirmation. We will hold in-person classes at WPÜ Shinjuku, along with fieldwork, guest conversations, and time learning from the city. Students who cannot travel can continue participating online.

  • No. Each participant is responsible for travel, entry requirements, lodging, meals, local transportation, materials, insurance, and related personal expenses. Tuition covers the educational program. We will share current travel guidance with registered participants closer to the program.

  • No. WPÜ Shinjuku is our basecamp and hospitality partner, but staying there is optional. Students and faculty may arrange accommodation anywhere that works for them.

  • Registered students and participating faculty will receive a private booking link and code for 10% off eligible rooms at WPÜ Shinjuku. You will book and pay WPÜ directly. Rooms and discounted inventory are limited, so the rate is subject to availability.

Completion and practical details

  • The initial Offsite Japan program and site will be offered in English. Instructors may bring Japanese context or terminology into individual courses where useful.

    • A Mac or PC capable of running the software used in your courses
    • A reliable internet connection, webcam, microphone, and headphones
    • Presentation software such as Keynote, PowerPoint, or Google Slides
    • Course-specific sketching, prototyping, or making materials

Wait before purchasing specialized materials. Instructors will share course-specific requirements before or during Week 1.
  • Students who meet the program requirements will receive a certificate of completion. The program also gives you new work, stronger process documentation, and projects you can continue developing for your portfolio.

  • Offsite is a focused, non-degree educational program. University programs cover a wider academic experience. We concentrate on studio practice, current tools, direct feedback from working designers, and a global peer community. Some students use Offsite alongside school. Others use it to begin, refresh, or redirect their practice.

  • No. Offsite Japan is an independent, non-degree program. The certificate of completion confirms that you met Offsite’s program requirements; it is not an academic degree or university credit.

  • Tuition is priced in USD and will include 10% JCT at checkout. The final amount charged in JPY will be shown at checkout and may vary with the payment provider’s exchange rate and any fees applied by your bank or card issuer.

  • Scholarship availability for Autumn 2026 is still being confirmed. We will publish clear eligibility and application details before registration opens.

  • Email the Offsite team before enrolling. Tell us a little about your background, where you are located, and what you hope to learn so we can give you a useful answer.
